Hy-Breasail

“Part of the unconscious consists of a multitude of temporarily obscured thoughts, impressions, and images that, in spite of being lost, continue to influence our conscious minds. –Cark Jung, Man and his Symbols

The subconscious appears and disappears like some mass of land that emerges and submerges in a vast ocean. This correlates with the myth of Hy-Braiseal, an island that appears and disappears or moves location completely.

This island had been spotted from the coast of Ireland to near Labrador on Canada’s east coast. Growing up in Canada but living now in Ireland the link for me is powerful.

I am intrigued with the concept that reality can be altered by what is left unseen or shrouded by mist. Directions can change, land can appear transformed, mixed up and , although images form vague shapes at the back of the mind, they are unfamiliar and unattainable.

Sandra Bunting works in printmaking, silk-painting and batik. She also writes.

Back In Galway

I miss Montreal terribly but hopefully will get some work done here. House is all damp from wet weather and being empty for a month. Everything has to be washed and cleaned. Depressing.
